Many Companies that Franchise their business are being encouraged to use Singapore to enter the Asia franchise market. This is part of plans by the Franchising and Licensing Association of Singapore to anchor Singapore as the Asian Franchise hub. The Association plans to recognise franchisors that have made their mark internationally and has added an international category to its Franchisor of the Year award.

This year's Singapore Franchisor of the Year will go on to compete with seven overseas franchisors for the International Franchisor Award. The Franchising and Licensing Association has whittled down the Singapore nominees to three finalists - OBriens Irish Sandwich Bar Franchise, lingerie retail franchise Blush! and Childrens childcare franchise Cherie Hearts. The three were chosen mainly because they exhibited the potential to scale up their franchises quickly. The Singapore winner will go up against Global franchisors like Fast Food Franchise Carl's Junior and Chinese laundry franchise Fornet.

The Franchising and Licensing Association says the mix of finalists this year represents a diversification of the franchise market. Traditionally it has been the food franchises that have dominated the scene. But over the past five years, the number of non-food franchises has increased significantly, growing by about 25 percent.

New entrants include franchises in the wellness, education and services sectors. This recognises a new and up-coming franchisor which demonstrates the most potential to make an indelible mark on Singapores franchising scene. The finalists are Prima Taste, TrichoKare and Seoul Garden.
